Ready for School?

I'm realizing each stage of your child's life leads to new concerns and worries. Just when you have one part figured out and time flies and it's time to make the next decision. Am I making sense? Probably not. Anyways, it's January and most school are registering for August. Spots fill fast so choices need to be made quickly. I have a tour scheduled today with the school down the street and I'm researching a couple of other options too. I'm shocked we're already to this part of my little boy's life. Makes me kinda sad. I wish I could just stop time right now . . .

Six Month Stats

Miss W had her 6-month wellness check today and she's one healthy little lady. She's 27.5 inches long (96%!!!), 15 lbs. 5 oz. (35%) and her head is 16.5 inches (33%). Unfortunately, she's going through a growth spurt and teething so I haven't been getting much sleep lately. If I was smart I'd go to sleep at 7:30 when she does but there's always too many projects to finish :)

Six Months!

Happy 6 months birthday Waverly! I really can't believe it but I can't imagine our lives without her.

Every 6-month-old needs her own tutu. This was a Christmas gift from Auntie M.

She's not quite sitting up on her own but getting closer each day. She's able to get up on all fours and rock back and forth. She loves to turn on her mobile's music while laying in the crib. She's starting to have separation anxiety and likes to be where the action is at.

Everything goes directly to her mouth . . . nom, nom, nom.

I found this idea on Pinterest and thought it was perfect for Ryan's Christmas gift. I bought 12 envelopes and wrote down 12 different date ideas. This month we'll be staying indoors for our date and picking up some Chipotle and challenging each other in a round of Rock Band. This date is nice b/c it doesn't require a sitter.

On the back, we'll circle to date to ensure we do it. Once you have kids, it can be really hard finding time for a date but you need to make time for each without the kids :)

Cubes Full of Food

Waverly is at the stage where I can begin to make and store her baby food. Super Baby Foods by Ruth Yaron is my go-to guide. My favorite part of the book is the monthly guide on what their digestive system can handle. So far she's had rice cereal, bananas, sweet potatoes, avocado, squash and whole milk plain yogurt. She never refuses a meal :)

On this final day of 2011, the whole family climbed to the top of Pinnacle Mountain. Ryan strapped Waverly on front and I spotted Harrison. That evening we were able to escape for a nice dinner together sans kids. It was a good way to end the year.

We decided to take the kiddos to see the lights and they were both really pumped. It took awhile to drive over there and when we turned around both of them were passed out! Should we wake them? Normally, I would say no but I knew it would be worth it. After a couple of minutes of nudging H, he finally came around when I mentioned I had a candy cane for him :)

Sometimes I'm amazed at what comes out of Mr. H's mouth. He absorbs so much from books and conversations that his vocabulary will probably be better than mine by next year. We hope to always encourage this love of learning.

One night we were out of new books so Ryan decided to read Harrison one of his. For the past couple of weeks, Ryan read The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C.S. Lewis to him. I can't believe he listened to the entire book! It got me thinking of the next book and I remember my friend Heather said her son really enjoyed The Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osborne. OMG, we hit the jackpot with these. They are about a brother and sister who use their tree house to travel to far off lands that are filled with dragons, wizards, polar bears, lion, basically anything boys droll over. Our library has most of these so it's a special treat when when pick up some new ones. Win-Win.

Rub-a-dub-dub, an Elf in the tub!

Today is my birthday and I'll cry if I want to. Only kidding, I'm fine with birthdays as long as no one asks me my age ;) My day started out by reading this card from Heather whom I've know for over 20 years! This quote reminds me of skunks!

This year I wanted to do something new for my birthday and I read about a great idea on someone's blog . . . A random acts of kindness day! So I asked the family if they would assist me in my quest. Harrison and I baked cookies this morning and left a few for our mailman.

The rest of the cookies went to the local fire house. All the firemen were pretty excited to have some tasty treats.

Our next stop was at Harrison's doctor's office. Last time we were there, I noticed they didn't have any Highlights magazines. When I was little that was a "highlight" of going to the doctor and finding the hidden images. Harrison was sweet enough to donate a few of his issues. We also dropped off a few board books for the young 'uns.

We found a row of vending machines at the hospital and placed quarters in all the change spots. Anything to make someone smile when they are at the hospital this time of year.

It's happened to us before . . . you've run out of diapers and/or wipes! We left a few in the bathroom for that emergency situation.

I left several of my favorite magazines in the waiting room. I highly recommend This Old House :)

This act was one of my favorites. If you look closely, you'll see a dollar bill tucked into the construction truck. We hid a few dollars in the toy aisle of Dollar Tree for some kids to find.

Had to make a pit stop at Target for some supplies. While there, we returned a cart, smiled at strangers, picked up some trash, and chatted with the checker.

Bob and Mimi babysat the kiddos (thank you!) for a much needed quiet birthday lunch (yeah, eating local). Afterwards, we dropped off diapers, wipes, gloves and formula at a homeless shelter for families.

And finally, we pulled together a care package for Flip Flopper and Jacob. Oh and I can't forget a lovely phone call to Nana.

Just think if everyone did ONE random act, ONE day a year, how much better would this world be?!!!

It's the season of giving and man, it's kept me busy, in a good way :) I made these "Christmas Cookies in a Jar" for friends and Harrison's school. We kept one for ourselves and they made pretty tasty cookies.

For Harrison's school friends, we bagged the homemade chex mix and burned cds of Harrison's favorite Christmas songs. It's a good thing he has a graphic designer as a mama!

Tis the season for baking. My friend Andria makes the best chex mix and peanut butter balls every holiday season. I tried my hand at the mix this year and it turned out fairly good :) She was probably sick of all my questions!

I also made 7 Layer Dip for Waverly's monthly playdate. Unfortunately, we were all so busy talking and watching the kiddos we forgot to get a picture! Guess we'll just have to wait until January.

Five Months!

Our little angel is five months today! I feel like a lot have changed in the past couple of weeks. She's able to get on all fours and lift that belly off the ground. She puts EVERYTHING in her month that is within reach. She's learned to show her displeasure. For example, she'll help me open the mail and if she tries to eat the envelope (which she does every time), she says "ahhhhhh, grrrrr, ahhhh, eeeeehhhh" when I take it away.

She adores Lucy cat. She reaches out for her, growls and grabs handfuls of fur. Lucy must not mind b/c she doesn't move. Her favorite person is probably still Harrison. He gets the best laughs out of her.

And lastly, she can't wait for Christmas to come!

It's a big day for Waverly, her first solid food! We waited until Harrison was exactly six months before introducing him to rice cereal. Well, this little lady kept grabbing at our food and the other day she was reaching her hand into Ryan's mouth! It went pretty well. She wanted to be in control and feed herself :)

Here's another expression that cracks us up. Sometimes she'll chew on her cheeks or tongue. Pretty funny.

Babies, babies and more babies! Our group grew to fourteen this month, ranging from 3 weeks to 6 months. Waverly is on the far left sporting her hog hat.

I get a lot of project inspiration from Pinterest. Here's my latest project. I found these letters at Hobby Lobby. Normally they are $0.99 but I managed to get them half off. I also picked out this scrap booking paper which was also on sale. I think it was only a quarter!

I have a confession . . . I think my brain still isn't back to it's normal size from the pregnancy. When I got home I realized I forgot to buy the letter "L"!

I traced the letters (minus one) and then cut them out.

I found some bronze/gold paint for the edges. It was around two bucks.

I pasted the scrapbook paper letters on the chipboard letters. I've had this part finished for awhile. I finally found time to purchase the "L" so I could finish this project.

Ta Da! I used sticky tack to place them on her dresser. I still haven't figured out what I'm going to put on the top spot. Any ideas?

4 Months!

Guess who's 4 months today?!!! She's an extremely happy and content little lady. We all love her to pieces. She's mastering scooting backwards. I'll lay her on a blanket and before I know she's wiggling around the hardwood floors. Reminds me of a fish out of water. She's grabbing at toys and starting to lift her chest off the ground. Her favorite activity is watching big brother and pretending to catch him around the house.

Miss Waverly had her 4 month check up today and wow, this girl is TALL! She's 26 inches (97%), 13 lbs. (37%) and head 15.5 inches (11%). She's grown 7 inches in 4 months! I have a feeling she'll be the tallest one in the family :)

I thought it would be pretty cute if Harrison was a knight and Waverly was the dragon. He kept the costume on for maybe five minutes.

We broke out the Tigger halloween costume again! Waverly is three months younger than Harrison for this Halloween.

I forgot how crazy Harrison's tongue used to be! So silly. Time goes by so fast, it's hard for me to remember him that small.

The Blue Pumpkin

For some unknown reason, our neighbor across the street painted her pumpkin electric blue. I think this is why Harrison's new favorite color is blue and not black. Anyways, at first he hated it then he decided we needed to paint ours blue too. So this year instead of carving pumpkins, Harrison painted his blue. Since this is Waverly's first introduction to Halloween, we may be painting pumpkins blue every year.

Spooky Treats

I try to show appreciation to Harrison's teachers whenever I get a chance. I saw these cute/scary strawberry ghosts on Pinterest and had to recreate them. Harrison assisted me with some of the eyes but I'm pretty sure he ate more than placed.

I found these foil loaf pans to hold these spooky guys.

I made a few extra for the office ladies too. They are always so sweet to my little man. Ryan came up with the verbiage.

Pre-Wedding Day Events

The day started out perfect with sunny skies and warm autumn weather. Upon arriving to the bridesmaids' tea, I noticed this too cute setting. Andria wrapped our jewelry up with a monogrammed tag. On our seat was a goody bag with our fabric flowers (that she made) for our dresses and we each received an antique brooch for the middle of them. But that's not all, on the back of our chair was an apron. She taught herself how to sew and picked out fabric that she knew we would love.

The crazy part about my apron is my friend Heather gave me a carrying bag with the exact same prints! I guess those girls know me :)

Here's the beautiful bride and Miss Waverly. It was so nice to be able to eat without holding a child!

Andria surprised us with a floral designing class! This is right up my alley. We all sported our new aprons.

How creative! We were able to design our own bouquet for the wedding. The florist explained the flowers and the maximum number to take.

First we started by removing the extra leaves. The florist walked us through all the steps and was there to help if needed.

H: Mama, I have something to tell you.

Me: Okay. What is it?

H: I have a hypothesis about the rocket ship playground.

Me: Okay, tell me. (In my head, I was wondering where he heard hypothesis)

H: Kids just can't go to the top because it's bolted down.

H: Mama, there's a ladybug poking my inside body parts!

Me: Did you swallow one?

H: No, it just crawled in.

Waverly's Baptism

Our little angel was baptized today! It was such a beautiful day, we decided to walk up to the church.

Miss Waverly flinched a little bit at first from the temperature of the water then relaxed. No tears were shed from her during the entire ceremony!

Here we are in front of the baptismal fountain with Father Andy and Waverly's godparents, Terry and Kathy.

Ryan is a very loving and patient father. I count my blessings every day :) Thank you to all the family and friends who made it to the ceremony and dinner. We love you all.

This was Waverly's first visit to the pumpkin patch so Harrison had to show her the ropes. This photo makes my heart giggle!

Mr. H found a peak hole in the middle of the hay tunnel. Ahh, to be a kid again! Now we need to decide what to carve on our pumpkins. Good thing there's Pinterest!

W's Playdate

Through my aqua moms swim class, I met some amazing ladies and now we all have our little ones to show off! Last month we forgot to get a picture. We're trying to get together each month and it's going to be crazy getting a picture of them once they start crawling! The kiddos range in age from 7 weeks to 4 months!

I can't believe it's already monthly picture time! Miss Waverly is a rolling machine and has started to sleep on her belly. I'm surprised I was able to get this photo before she turned to her belly. She's starting to make raspberries with her mouth. I've heard a hint of a laugh. It's more like a high pitched squeal. Still a happy little baby. The drool is starting to come and she's chewing on her fingers. Yikes, I don't like to think about teething but Harrison's first two made an appearance around 5 months.

She constantly moves her arms in the arm with tight fists. It looks like she's always wanting to give us tators!

Kids say the darndest things! I never know what's going to come out of his mouth. Here's a few recent examples:

I thought H was picking a scab on his nose so I said . . .

Me: Harrison, are you picking again?

H: These boogers just won't stay in that's why I am pulling them out.

H was telling me about a boy in his class who just had a birthday . . .

H: "X" (I'm protecting the innocent) is SOOO big. It makes me really sad. He needs to go in the class with the bigger kids. Will you tell my teachers?

One morning after about an hour and a half of non-stop talking . . .

H: I've had enough talking!

(this lasted about a minute)

Ryan drove my car to pick up H from school . . .

Teacher: Harrison, your mama is here. No wait, it's your dad.

H: You just don't know my family.

(Luckily, his teacher told me he just makes her day)

Ryan and H had made a super cool fort above his cousin's bed. They were laying there for awhile when H finally spoke . . .

H: (Sigh) . . . This is the life.

Card Saver

If you're like me, you save all your cards but they end up collecting dust in a box. Well, my friend Shannon blogged about this great idea for displaying cards. I found this necklace at Hobby Lobby for $1.47 in the jewelry making department. It was my lucky day because it was half price. I hardly pay full price at Hobby Lobby because every week they have 50% off sales. You can find their weekly ads online.

I hole-punched all of the cards that Waverly has received and put them on the necklace. I saved a couple of ribbons from presents and added them too. Then I hung it on the door knob in her room. She'll always have a constant reminder of all the people who love her. I bought an extra one for Harrison and one for Ryan and I to share.

Alpha Rocks

The other day, I feared I would find all these projects on Pinterest and then never do any of them. SO this week I'm tackling a few of them. First up is Alpha Rocks! I found this bag of rocks at the Dollar Tree for . . . you guessed it! A dollar!

This marker is from Hobby Lobby ($1.99), which I found in the scrap booking section.

Here's the whole alphabet in rocks. I figured it will be a fun way for Harrison to spell words and learn his alphabet. Not to mention, I think they look pretty cool.

Dontcha just love mason jars?! I'm thinking about writing words on the other side of the rocks so Harrison can form sentences (someday).
