Website Wednesday - Halloween

Since it's Halloween, I thought it would be fitting to have a Halloween based website for today. Click HERE for the history of halloween and cool Halloween stats.

Did you know 46% of adult American carve a pumpkin?

Each pumpkin contains about 500 seeds and they are good sources of Vitamin A, B, potassium, protein and iron.

90% of parents admit to sneaking goodies from their kids' Halloween trick-or-treat bags. I think it's more like 100%!

30% of kids report that they sort their candy after returning home from trick-or-treating. I was a sorting, were you?

The Stackable Chairs

It wouldn't be a playroom without little chairs and a table! I sent Bob this link and ask if we could build these $4 stackable chairs sometime. The next thing I know, he showed up with 2 of them already made.  I filled in the screw holes, sanded them, and added a fresh coat of paint. It still needs another but it's coming along.

City or Country Girl

When I was younger I definitely desired living in a big city. I had my stint in NYC which really wasn't for me. I've experience the small (well not too small), medium and big sizes. And you know what, the older I get the ruraler (not a word) I get. Which for Ryan, it's the opposite. He really digs big cities these days. It's funny how we've changed.

Don't get me wrong I love my city and it's a perfect size for me right now. Plenty to do AND there's an airport within 15 minutes. BUT I do find myself daydreaming of owning a couple of acres maybe in upstate NY? Is that where my fantasy place lives? Going to the farmers market and seeing Martha, hanging out at the local bakery and gathering with neighbors for a home cooked gourmet meal outside on a long picnic table with twinkle lights hanging from the trees. The table decor would reflect the season. Sorry, I've been catching up on my Country Living Magazines lately :) Where's your fantasy location?

The Feral One

Tis the season for tricks and treats. H is an alligator hunter. His aunt Laura put the words "Alligator Hunter" in bright orange on the front of his shirt. Wavy is a kitty cat.

Today the kids dressed up for a community Trunk or Treat event. As we were waiting in line for the trolley, a kid (probably around 6 or 7 years-old) who was dressed up like the Hulk started talking to us...

Hulk: Are you JUST an army guy?!! (directed to H)

Me: No, he's an alligator hunter. It says it on his shirt. (my thoughts- little punk kid, so what if he was an army guy)

Hulk: What is she...a bunny rabbit?

Me: NO, she's a cat. (geezh, she has a long tail and paws)

Hulk: She's not black. What kind of cat is she?

H: She's a feral cat.

Hahahahahaha, that shut him up! I can't believe he said that. HAHAHAHA.

Fashionista

H's class is learning about the letter F this week so today was Fancy Day. I think he looks pretty Fabulous.

This crazy girl comes up with her own fashion sense. I don't know how she does this but it happens quite a bit. She's also starting to be picky about her clothing and will sometimes like to layer miss matching tops. Super cute if you ask me!

Sibling Love

W is always so excited when we walk to pick H up from school. She loves to give him high-fives and if she's lucky he'll hold her hand. She thinks he's the greatest brother ever.

Uber Organized

Yay, I completed a Pinterest project! Harrison brings home a ton of papers and projects from school. Some are definitely keeps so I decided it was time to create a system to organize them. I made 15 folders from Pre-School to 12th Grade. Looking at this picture, I just realized I need to switch Pre-K and Pre-School. Oops, easy fix though :)

I also designed a cover sheet for each folder. I have his name at the top then School, Years Attended, Location, and Teacher's Name at the bottom. The middle will be a spot for class pictures.

Mi Vida Loca

When I decided to quit my job, I had no idea how crazy / busy my life would become. I think people view SAHM as an easy, relaxing life and they have all the time in the world. Trust me it's not the case. I'm more exhausted now than I ever was before.

Harrison started a "big school" this year and since it's a private school they rely on parents to volunteer. During the orientation, there was a sign up sheet for room parent. Deep down I was really excited about the opportunity especially since I've thought about teaching pre-school/pre-k. I march over there and was the first to sign up. Little did I know, the person who signs up is responsible for emailing parents reminders and organizing events. Luckily there are four of us and we all get along well. Next time, I'll let someone else sign up first ;)

In addition I signed up for the Give A Treat committee which is a monthly philanthropic activity at the school. Since I'm the token designer, I'm in charge of all flyers and design pieces. THEN I have recess duty every Wednesday afternoon. Don't get me started about the school garden project. I also go to the Women's Group monthly meetings at church which I'm part of one or two committees there (this is a highlight for me). PLUS, Harrison has soccer practice Wednesday nights and games on Saturday mornings.

I take Wavy to story time every Tuesday and we have a Mommy & Me movement class that morning too. On Thursday we attend a play group or hang out at the park. On Wednesday, Bob and Mimi watch W so I can work on freelance projects or run errands.  And lately on Fridays, W and I will have a girls lunch with Mimi. Did I mention I work about 10-20 hours freelance? And the never ending laundry....And the house looks like a disaster most days with Hurricane Waverly...Yes, and the Etsy store. I need a manager to give me deadlines on that so I can get it up and running!

With all that said, I wouldn't change it for the world. My days fly by so fast, I try to take time to enjoy each and every one of them. I look at the older students at H's school and it makes me a little sad. Someday my babies will grow up. I better keep them small as long as I can!

Office Makeover

I've been toying around with the idea of turning my office into a playroom / creation center. We removed all the books and donated a ton of them to our library. Ryan built an extra shelf for the top area for extra storage. I painted the back wall Woodlawn Blue. It will display H's Legos. That way, they'll be off my dining room table but he can still see them. More to come...

This n' That

So I found out that H is the Star of the Week starting tomorrow. His teacher asked for several pictures to display on the wall.

Me: Harrison, here's a picture of us when I was pregnant with Waverly.

H: I was wondering why your belly was so fat like you ate a bunch of cookies!

Oh dear, there's nothing worse than dishpan hands.

Buddies

The Aqua Babies are still getting together. Betsy was able to get this picture. It is SOOO hard getting them in one area.

Awwhhh, W has a new little buddy. They're kinda posing the same?!

Website Wednesday - Bean2Blog

I saw on another blog about an event called Blog2Bean. Click HERE to read the details and see all the bloggers who attended. Basically, it was an event for women bloggers to educate them about soybeans. What soybeans, how is that fun? First it was at P. Allen Smith's Garden Home (side note: dying to go). Second did you know you can make oils, cleaning products, paint, insulation, candles, soap, lotions, deodorant, and much more from soybeans? Click HERE for the product guide. Plus it has some cool graphics to it.

High Tech Dining

I found this pic from our Denver trip. The menu and wine list was on an iPad! Pretty cool to figure out which one to pair with your food. I wonder if anyone ever spills on it....

Lil Campfire

Harrison saw the roots of this cornstalk and stopped...

H: Look a little campfire. Some little people must have been out here.

Yeah, that would be REALLY little.

Genius

Ryan and I were able to sneak out for a little adult time. This bar and grill has a "beer wall" in which you fill up your own beverage. The waitress gave Ryan a small, magnet type object to plug into the wall before he pours. You're charged by the oz. Some tables had their own tabs too and it keeps track of how much you release. I think this is genius for a bar owner.

The Patch

Ahhh, it's my little family pumpkin patch! They all crack me up.

Thank goodness there was wide open spaces for W to run. That girl is go-go-go 24 / 7.

Waverly is getting  pretty good with the camera! Only kidding, Bob and Mimi took her back so we could enjoy some time in the patch without constantly chasing her.

Kerrie sent me article about a mom who's hardly in any of the pictures with her kids. Us moms are so critical of ourselves and we're lucky to get out of the house with matching clothes on! So I'm making a conscious effort to be included in pictures. Lord knows, I'm not getting any younger looking ;)

Bingo Baby

It's BINGO time!!! Man, did I have a great time! It was an all-girls evening out with beverages (yes, please), nachos, popcorn, candy, dessert and daubers. Thank you Kat for showing Lily and I how it's done, next time maybe we'll win something.

Garlic Season

The other day I was talking to Kerrie and she mentioned it was time to plant garlic. I've never planted but have always wanted to b/c we love cooking with fresh garlic.

She said to break the bulb up into individual cloves and soak in water for a day. Then plant them like you would a tulip bulb and you'll have garlic in the spring. I hope it works!

Pizza Face

W loves pizza! Actually this girl loves almost all food and she eats a ton. The other day after the soccer game, we stopped at Waffle House and she had eggs, toast, waffles, hash browns and a sausage pattie.
